Our communities are made up of at least three kinds of people: our staff who are called to mentor people to live missional lives, apprentices who are being shaped to live missional lives, and a handful of others from within our context who are becoming followers of Jesus.
Leaders
The leaders of NieuCommunities have lived and served in such diverse places as Johannesburg, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Seattle, and Budapest. We’ve helped young leaders find their way into ministry and help create communities of faith that have taken the church beyond where it has gone before. We’re a team of like-hearted leaders who aspire to shape people and communities to reach beyond the edges of the cultures we know to help re-create a better world.
NieuCommunities is a collective within CRM that is focused exclusively on the development of younger missional leaders and communities. Apprentices
NieuCommunities apprentices come from a variety of backgrounds, and they come for different reasons. Some come to us knowing exactly what they want to do after the experience. They come primarily to be developed and readied for the mission ahead…wherever that may be.
Others come with an idea of where God might be taking them next, but the specifics aren’t yet clear. They join us to test the waters a bit, to taste and see what missional life is all about, and to invite the community to help them clarify their calling.
And others still join us not really knowing at all what lies ahead. They come because they deeply desire to be used by God to make a difference in their world. They come to discover God’s dreams for their life and to find a pathway to get there.
If there is a common characteristic among our apprentices, it’s that they have decided they won’t settle for the status quo. They want to discover and profoundly live the missional life God is calling them to.
If that sounds like you, NieuCommunities can provide you a place to develop and test your faith, your ability to live in community, and your capacity to live on mission each and every day. It’s a place and a time for discovery. You will learn side-by-side with other sojourners what it takes to follow in the steps of Jesus.
NieuCommunities is not for everyone. It’s not for people looking for a new church to join, or even for those looking for an intentional community to make their home. It’s for those who want to be readied to engage the mission of God beyond our community. It’s for those who are on the road and want some help getting to the place God is sending them. As Jesus was concluding his mission, he said to his disciples, “As the father has sent me, so I am sending you” (John 20:21). Our purpose is to help you do just that…to live as one who is sent on mission just as Jesus was.
Our “sent ones” have gone all over the world. Some have gone far from home to be the presence of Jesus in other cultures. Some have become spiritual leaders back home in the marketplace. Others have become missional pastors or core leaders in local churches. They are new kinds of leaders carving out new communities of faith wherever they go.
Neighbors
In and around our communities are people we have met in our neighborhoods who are on a Godward journey. Some of them are people we have the privilege of serving alongside of and learning from. Some are people we are privileged to disciple into a deeper faith. But most are simply encouraged and mentored to become agents of reconciliation and creators of community as they continue dwelling among the people of the places unique to their lives.
